PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – Two more credit card information stealing skimmers have been found at two gas stations in West Michigan. Both were at Marathon stations, one in Portage on Portage Road, the other on M-51 in Paw Paw. If you have purchased gas there, you may want to keep a close watch on your bank account.
That brings the grand total of skimmers found in the area in the last month to 18, and it probably means there are others they just haven’t found yet. The experts say avoid pumps that aren’t viewable by the cashier, usually the ones farthest from the station.
The targeted pump at the Portage station was a pump in back. Check the pump to make sure the seal isn’t broken. That’s a small piece of colored tape that usually is on the edge of the pump put there by the last inspector. If you are really concerned, you can always pay cash.
