LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Congressman Fred Upton says his office has been receiving threatening phone calls after his vote to approve a federal infrastructure bill.
WOOD TV spoke with Upton about the calls Tuesday, who also shared one of the calls made to his office.
The caller tells Upton that he hopes he dies, along with his staff and family, while also calling him a traitor. Upton estimated about a thousand calls came in following his vote of approval.
Speaking with WOOD TV, Upton said while he is unsure how serious the threats are, he has made a report with law enforcement.
“Our offices may be closed a little bit the next couple days because of threats,” Upton said in the interview. “I just hope that it doesn’t lead to some true act of violence that takes somebody out or causes some serious injury.”

In a related matter, Governor Gretchen Whitmer also issued the following message via Twitter on Tuesday.
The dangerous, violent rhetoric in this nation has to stop. Lawmakers working together across aisles should be celebrated, not vilified. I’ve always known @RepFredUpton to follow his heart, and he put his constituents first with his vote. https://t.co/4QeeTgLGfR
