COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – School officials in Branch County and across the state have sent the word out to parents: make sure your kids show for class tomorrow. It’s important every day but especially on Wednesday, October 7. It’s student count day and enrollment sets the amount of per-pupil funding the state provides to each district.
Enrollment levels are a combination of two student count days, one on the first Wednesday of October, which accounts for 90 percent of funding, and the other on the second Wednesday in February, which counts for 10 percent. Following the fall count day, schools have 10 days to report their enrollments to the Michigan Department of Education.
