COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Friday night death in Coldwater of a Marshall man who was struck and killed by a car while crossing U.S. 12 at Michigan Avenue on the city’s east side remains under investigation. The accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. A news release from Coldwater City Police said 75-year old Jack Combs was reportedly crossing the street when he was hit by the vehicle driven by a 72-year old Coldwater woman. Her name wasn’t released. Combs was pronounced dead around 10 minutes following the incident despite CPR being performed on him by off-duty medical personnel and additional lifesaving efforts by Coldwater police officers and firefighters and Lifecare Ambulance personnel upon arrival at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled for today. According to police, the accident occurred at dusk, the skies were cloudy, the intersection was lighted and in a business district. Investigators say they don’t believe the driver had been using either alcohol or her cell phone at the time of the collision.
