WASHINGTON, DC (WTVB) – Seventh District Michigan Republican Congressman Tim Walberg ripped the Build Back Better Act that narrowly cleared the U.S. House in a partisan vote on Friday.
The entire House Republican Conference voted against H.R. 5376 as it passed 220-213. Only one Democrat voted no.
Walberg blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for ramming through what he called, “the most radical and expensive spending bill our nation has ever seen. Make no mistake: This spending spree is not fully paid for, as the Congressional Budget Office confirmed. When you factor in all the accounting gimmicks, this monstrosity will balloon the national debt even more.”
Walberg added “Build Back Broke is a more fitting name for this far-left boondoggle.”
President Biden and Democratic Party leaders say the nearly two-trillion-dollar bill will help the middle class. It includes universal preschool for all three and four year old children, expands Medicare, extends pandemic-era Affordable Care Act subsidies and nearly a half trillion dollars in funding to combat climate change.
The plan now awaits consideration in the Senate where it could face considerable changes there.
