COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A case involving a Coldwater man who is facing charges in connection with an alleged incident in the summer of 2019 with a girl who was 15 years old at time has been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
22-year-old Tyler Wesley Chehowski waived his Branch County District Court preliminary exam which was scheduled for Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear for a Circuit Court arraignment on January 10.
It was indicated during Tuesday’s court hearing a plea agreement has been offered by prosecutors to Chehowski.
Two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct as well as two counts of third degree C.S.C. and a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder were filed.
In a separate case, Chehowski has been charged with being in possession of a weapon while he was in the Branch County Jail.
Bond in the two cases totals $101,000.
Chehowski was ordered to serve between 50 months and 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on October 25 in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a no contest plea in July to a charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct. He was given credit for 252 days already served. He entered his plea in connection with a May 2019 incident involving a then 12-year-old girl which was investigated by Coldwater Police.
The sentence handed down in October was on top of the 17 month to five year prison term he was given on August 30 after he entered a no contest plea to violating his probation.
