COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Monday night in volleyball, Coldwater dropped a non-conference match at home to Edwardsburg 3-0, losing 23-25, 14-25, 23-25. Jamie Wellet led the way in digs with 17 and in assists with 13. Megan Gallup had 3 kills and Tyler Scheid had a team-high 4 blocks. The Lady Cardinal’s season record slipped to 4-8-and-4 and they return to action tomorrow with an Interstate 8 Conference match at Marshall.
In last night’s freshman match, Coldwater beat Edwardsburg 2-0. Jordan Clemens and Mya Tom each had 6 kills, 3 aces, and 2 blocks while Anna Tappenden had 3 digs and 6 assists.
Yesterday in girls golf, Coldwater came in fourth place out of 14 teams in the Jackson Area Golf Invitational hosted by Jackson Lumen Christi at the Cascades Golf Course. Lumen Christi took first place with a team score of 377 while Coldwater posted a 435. Madison Donbrock led Coldwater with a 104 followed by Haley Linton with a 107. Claire Sheppard shot a 111, Jayla Goodwin 113, and Gabriel Boston rounded out the Lady Cardinal’s scoring with a 121. Tomorrow, it’s Coldwater at Marshall for the third Interstate Eight Jamboree of the season.
Monday in boys junior varsity tennis, Coldwater played to a 3-3 tie at Portage Northern. Winning for the Cardinals were Alec Keplinger and Hernan Ochoa Polanco at first and fourth singles along with Dillon Gagnon and Blake Yates at second doubles.
Today in high school sports, in boys soccer, it’s Coldwater at Marshall with the JV match at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:45 p.m. Coldwater remains 13th in the state in Division 2 in the Week 2 rankings for the season by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association.
In volleyball, it’s Quincy at Springport while Union City hosts Concord. In boys tennis, Bronson hosts Kalamazoo Christian. And in cross country, it’s Bronson at Bridgman.

The first Michigan Associated Press High School football rankings of the season have been released today and Coldwater is honorable mention in Division Three. The Cardinals, who are 3-0, play at home Friday against Parma Western.
