ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says a Camden man was injured early Thursday morning when he fell asleep at the wheel and his pickup truck crashed into a tree near Quincy.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says 33-year-old Zachery Stoddard was injured in the crash which was reported at 6:32 a.m. on South Fremont Road between Cornell and Corless Roads.
According to a Sheriff’s Department news release, Stoddard was driving north on South Fremont when the crash took place.
The Quincy Fire Department reports that their first crew to arrive on the scene found Stoddard alert but significantly pinned in the wreckage. They started initial extrication before calling for the Coldwater Fire Department to respond with additional jaws of life tools and manpower.
Crews worked for nearly an hour and a half before being to free Stoddard just before 8:00 a.m..
A landing zone for the Life Flight Helicopter was set up nearby. The chopper took off at about 8:20 a.m. and flew Stoddard to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
The crash remains under investigation by The Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
