COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved a six month special rate extension of a 10 year contract with Maroa Farms on Wednesday night.
Maroa has been on a Special Contract Rate for the past decade but that contract is set to expire on December 31, 2021.
The B.P.U. and Maroa have been discussing the electric rate for almost two years.
B.P.U. Director Jeff Budd says an agreement was made to allow them to finish their current lighted growing season under the modified terms.
Budd pointed out how different things were 10 years ago.
This six-month extension would expire on June 30, 2022. Budd said in his report after the six-month extension, Maroa will need to choose to be on the Time of Use rate or a stated Transmission rate.
