WASHINGTON, DC (WTVB) – Branch County’s Representative in the House on Capitol Hill, Republican Tim Walberg, voted Friday against the Iran nuclear settlement, but it was more of a symbolic protest than anything else. The House gave a big thumbs-down to the deal by formally rejecting a bill to approve the accord. It is a moot point, though, as majority Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to overcome a Democratic filibuster, and Walberg fears that this opens a nuclear Pandora’s Box in the Middle East with dangerous repercussions that will reverberate for generations to come. According to Walberg, the Obama Administration gave the Iranians, the leading state sponsor of terrorism, the time and space to build a nuclear weapon, weakened inspections to cover their tracks, and billions in sanctions relief to finance the spread of terrorism. The complex and controversial accord will begin to take effect late next week.
