ALLENDALE, MI (WTVB) – There’s a note of caution today from a noted regiional economist. In his monthly survey of West Michigan purchasing managers, researcher Dr. Brian Long of Grand Valley State University says that economic growth slowed during August.
The poll continued to show optimism in new orders and production, although at a far less rate than in July, and Dr. Long said that this may be a seasonal trend due to similar results during the same poll last year. What was alarming to him was the employment index, which slowed in August after being in double digits for many, many months and yet a year ago at this time, the index of employment did not slow at all.
