COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Four people were injured, two of them seriously, in a two car crash yesterday afternoon in Coldwater Township. The accident was reported at 4 p.m. at the intersection of State Road and Michigan Avenue.
Michigan State Police said 18-year old Mikalah Bailey of Quincy was driving her Volkswagen Passat northbound on Michigan when according to witnesses, she ran the stop sign causing the collision with a Honda CR-V. Bailey’s vehicle that was struck on the passenger side ended up in a bean field on the northwest corner of the intersection.
The second driver, 62-year old Carol VanHoosear of Coldwater wasn’t hurt but her front seat passenger, 88-year old Opal King of Coldwater, suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury and was admitted to the Community Health Center of Branch County. Bailey and her rear seat passenger, 18-year old Sam Mertz, had only minor injuries and were treated at CHC.19-year old Brian Mertz, also from Quincy, was riding in the front seat, and had serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was airlifted to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo for treatment.
The Coldwater Fire Department assisted at the scene along with LifeCare medics. The accident remains under investigation by the State Police.
