LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A state lawmaker from the Detroit area is confident that a bill to rescind Michigan’s fireworks law can clear the House. Henry Yanez told Michigan Public Television that, after polling his colleagues on the House floor last month, he currently has 36 yes votes, 19 short of passage, with 43 members undecided. The Sterling Heights Democrat said on “Off the Record” that many Representatives from both sides of the aisle told him of regretting passing the legislation.
Yanez is also pushing his bill that would ban sky lanterns because of the threat posed to people and property.
