BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A busy Wednesday night as Branch County wrestling teams opened their seasons on time unlike last year when the COVID-19 pandemic made a mess of things.
Coldwater started off their season at Gull Lake. They wrestled an experienced Blue Devils team and lost 57-24. Landyn Birk, Christpher Mobley and Kevin Hall all had pins for Coldwater.
The Cardinals bounced back in the second match and defeated Pennfield 36-30. Maverick Johnson, Hunter Munson, Landyn Birk all secured victories by pin fall for Coldwater. The Cardinals will travel to Portland for a team tournament on Saturday.
The Bronson Vikings split a pair of matches on their home mat Wednesday night as they defeated Constantine 42-29 but lost to Temperance-Bedford 39-36.
Union City won two home matches as they defeated Brooklyn Columbia Central 59-18 and Colon 72-6.
Quincy split their two matches at the Schoolcraft Quad. The Orioles defeated Schoolcraft 42-27 and lost to tenth-ranked Lawton 48-21.
Quincy wrestlers who went undefeated for the night were Grayson Laney, Brayden Mosher, Davin George, Zach Gray, Michael Daniels and Xavier Fullbright. In addition, freshman Caleb Rose pinned a state-ranked wrestler in his first ever varsity match.
