COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school golf Wednesday, it was a third place finish for Coldwater as it hosted the second Interstate-8 Jamboree of the season at the Coldwater Golf Course. Lumen Christi won the event, posting a 188 while Coldwater’s team score was 205 led by Madison Donbrock and Jayla Goodwin, who each shot 50. Haley Linton followed with a 52, Gabby Boston had a 53, Claire Sheppard carded a 56 and Molly Smith rounded out the Lady Cardinal’s scoring with a 60.
Coldwater’s JV golf team traveled to the Island Hills Golf Course for a Jamboree hosted by Sturgis on Wednesday and placed third out of 4 teams shooting a team score of 289. Sturgis won the event with a 248. Leading the way for Coldwater was Abby Coffing with a 70 while Jena and Emma Beckhusen each had 71’s.
Last night in volleyball, Quincy earned a pair of wins in a tri-match at Vandercook Lake, beating the host Jayhawks 2-1 before defeating Hudson 2-0. The non-conference victories improved Quincy’s record this season to 7-3.
In freshman volleyball, Coldwater beat Hillsdale and Jonesville in a tri match at Hillsdale. Anna Tappenden had 7 kills, Jordan Clemens had 8 aces and Tiffanie Corwin had 3 digs.
In boys tennis, Bronson was an 8-0 winner yesterday at home over New Buffalo. The Vikings swept the doubles by void while capturing the singles matches were Logan Berry, Brett Sikorski, Brendan Bell and Ryan Wisman.
In JV tennis, Coldwater picked up a victory at Marshall. Singles winners for the Cardinals were Alec Keplinger, Sam Morrison, Hernan Ochoa Polanco and Kyle Krzyzanski while also earning points were Jacob Matevia and Blake Yates at second doubles and Brendan Hanna and Eric Segovia at fourth doubles.
Tonight’s Varsity high school football schedule includes Coldwater at Marshall in their Interstate Eight Conference opener after both teams won last week to begin the season. It’s a 7 p.m. contest with live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
Tonight in the Big Eight, Quincy is at Springport while Union City hosts Concord. Meanwhile, Bronson has a non-conference game for its home opener, taking on Bridgman. And in Eight-Man football, it’s Tekonsha at Webberville.
Last night’s reserve football action, Coldwater’s JV team lost at Marshall 42-22, while the freshman lost 19-6. Quincy’s junior varsity team beat Springport at home 44-28.
Today’s high school sports schedule, besides the football, includes boys tennis with Coldwater at Three Rivers and Bronson hosts Pennfield. In volleyball, Bronson is at the Pinconning Invitational while in boys soccer, Quincy has a home match at 4 p.m. against Hillsdale.
