UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Playing their second game in 24 hours, the Union City Chargers bounced back from a lopsided loss to Olivet in their season opener with a 64-43 victory over Mendon on Thursday night at Union City’s McNett Fieldhouse.
Union City took control of the game in the first half as they built leads of 15-6 after the first quarter and 29-9 at the half.
Kyle Johnson led the Chargers with a game-high 24 points.
Union City is now 1-1 for the season.
Also in boys basketball, the Coldwater Cardinals open their season Friday night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium with a Interstate 8 game against Jackson Lumen Christi. Coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB starts at around 6:45 p.m..
In girls basketball, Coldwater plays at Lumen Christi, Bronson travels to Concord and Quincy will be at Reading.
Also in Branch County high school sports on Friday, the Bronson bowling teams will be at Comstock while the Bronson wrestling team will compete in the Jackson Invitational.
