BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A fast moving cold front which featured strong winds gusting up to 60 mph in some areas caused the power to go out for nearly 1,800 Consumer’s Energy customers in Branch County on Saturday morning.
Most of the power was restored in Branch County by midday on Sunday.
The Branch County Memorial Airport recorded a wind gust of 49 mph at 10:35 a.m. on Saturday. There were 60 mph wind gusts recorded in Camden and in Benton Harbor.
A fast drop in the temperature was also reported at the Branch County Memorial Airport as the temperature was 59 degrees at 7:55 a.m.. By 10:35 a.m., it was down to 39 degrees.
The wind storm impacted more than 150,000 Consumers Energy customers. The hardest hit areas in Michigan included Midland, Flint, Carson City, Grand Rapids, Greenville, Alma and Ionia. Winds knocked down trees, limbs, broke 192 poles and damaged over 2,200 power lines.
Consumers had more than 370 crews, including 50 mutual assistance crews, storm trailers, and mobile command centers, throughout the central portion of their service territory.
