Galen Lee Lucas, 83, of Burlington Township, passed away at home on Sunday, August 9, 2020 under the care of his family and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
A celebration of Galen’s life will be held 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Tekonsha, with Pastor Brian Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Burlington Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the church, also on Thursday, August 13, 2020, just prior to the funeral.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Galen was born February 12, 1937 in Leroy Township to Herbert and Margaret (Chichester) Lucas. He graduated from Union City High School in 1955 and on July 23, 1955 he married the former Louise Case. The couple made their home in Burlington Township, where Galen enjoyed beautifully maintaining the grounds. He was employed by Kellogg’s of Battle Creek, retiring in 1995. Galen attended the First Baptist Church of Tekonsha.
He loved John Deere tractors, participating in and watching tractor pulls. Galen also liked to hunt and fish. He was a straightforward and truthful person with a heart of gold. He valued his family and was thankful for how dedicated they were to him and to one another.
Galen is survived by his children, David (Lisa) Lucas of Tekonsha; Gail (Jeff) Duckworth of Burlington and Lois (Don) Hammond of East Leroy; grandchildren Kelli (Jacob) Tyler of Lubbock, TX, Crystal (Adam) Preston of Quincy and Amber Lucas of Battle Creek; great-grandchildren Alec, Aiden and Avery Preston and William Tyler; a sister, Eileen Funk, of California; and his special companion, Mert Watkins of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise (2007); and his half-sister, Edith Pena.
