FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – It’s been happening right across Branch County’s border in the northeast corner of Steuben County, Indiana but could just as easily happen in your neighborhood if you don’t take any crime prevention steps. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is investigating some 17 reports of thefts from vehicles and there have also been several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Town of Fremont that are being investigated by the Fremont Police Department. The crimes appeared to have occurred over approximately the last two weeks during the overnight hours.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to make sure any and all valuables are removed from vehicles and double check to make sure that your car doors are locked when parked outside. Citizens are also reminded to make sure that their garage doors are shut.
Anyone with information regarding the rash of thefts from vehicles is asked to contact Steuben County communications, Fremont Police or Steuben County Crime Stoppers. Citizens are also urged to report any suspicious persons or activity immediately, especially during the overnight hours.
