Sharon was born on November 26, 1940 in Lawton, OK to James and Dora (Latimer) Boney. She was raised by her mother and step-father, John Sperry. Sharon resided in Oklahoma until relocating to the state of Washington at the age of 19.
In 1970, Sharon and her family moved to Union City, where she was a member of the Wesleyan Church and the Fire Department Auxiliary. For many years, she operated “Little Angels Daycare” on Woodruff Street. She loved kids: her own, her grandchildren and other people’s kids.
Loving and caring, Sharon served as a grandma to many people. She was also an ongoing supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sharon’s spirituality led her to practice gratitude and selflessness and to put others first. In a final act of caring, following her death, Sharon became a tissue donor through Gift of Life.
Left to carry on Sharon’s tradition of family are her children, Lisa (Steven) King of Union City and Merle J. (Stephanie Maxham) Smith of Union City; her grandchildren, Aaron Good of Grand Rapids, Jeremiah (Brandi) King of Ashley, IN, Joe (Tara) Good of Kalamazoo, Jessica (Juan) Rodriguez of Union City and Michael Smith of Kalamazoo; great-grandchildren Cameron Miller, Annika King, Olivia Good, Nevaeh Rodriguez, Javen King and Ronald Good; and another great-granddaughter, Nala Rodriguez, on the way.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael R. Smith (1989); infant grandchildren, Alicia Sims and Clifton Barton, Jr.; and her sister, Rosita “Pat” Blodgett.
Memorial donations are suggested to Lisa King.
