Donna Laurine Humeston, 74, of Athens Township, passed
away unexpectedly Friday, December 27, 2019 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in
Kalamazoo following a stroke.
A
celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at
Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City with Rev. David Bogda
officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2019, also at
Lighthouse in Union City.
Donna
was born on March 1, 1945 in Coldwater, MI to Lewis and Frances (Miller) Katz.
She grew up in Union City and graduated from Union City High School in 1963.
She married William McMaster and they had two sons, Dub and Jason, but the
union ended in divorce. On September 21, 1996, Donna married Mike Humeston in
Angola, IN. He survives.
Over
the years, Donna worked at several different places, beginning with Maple Lawn
in Coldwater and ending with II Stanley in Battle Creek, from which she
retired. For several years, she drove bus for Athens Schools.
Donna and Mike
enjoyed camping and playing cards with friends, trapshooting and spending time
at the VFW in Athens. Donna was an avid cook and gardener. She was very devoted
to her family and enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s
activities.
Although loving and tolerant, she could be candid with her comments
and a spitfire when crossed. Donna spent a lot of time on Facebook and was a
master photo manipulator. She made wonderful greeting cards that could have put
Hallmark out of business. Her wit and hilarious playfulness will be greatly
missed.
Left to
cherish Donna’s memory are her husband of 23 years, Mike Humeston; sons,
William “Dub” McMaster of Athens and Jason (Tonie) McMaster of Leonidas;
grandchildren Cassandra Pettit, Shyanne Fletcher, Jasmine McMaster and Jewel
McMaster; one great-grandchild; siblings, Sharon Goble of Winchester, KY and
Bill Katz of Athens; many good friends; and her canine companion, Bobo.
She was
preceded in death by her parents and her ex-husband, William McMaster (2007).
Memorial
donations are suggested to the Athens VFW Post #5319, 120 Veterans Drive,
Athens, MI 49011.
