Mildred Ruth Mullin, 95, of Coldwater, died on Friday, November 8, 2019 at her home under hospice care, surrounded by her family.
A service in celebration of Mildred’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Lockwood Community Church,
202 E. Lockwood Road, Coldwater, MI 49036
, with Pastor Shayne Looper officiating. Visitation will be held just prior to the service on Thursday at the church, beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Mildred was born on April 3, 1924 in Champaign, Illinois to William B. and Bessie (Senter) Koons. She graduated from Champaign High School in 1942. She met her future husband, Otto Fields, Jr., in Champaign while he was serving in the Navy. The couple married and moved to Otto’s hometown of Coldwater, Michigan in 1963. Mildred began working at the Tempo department store, which later became Big Wheel, in Coldwater. She was well known in the community and was in charge of the beauty department. She retired from Big Wheel in 1986 after 22 years. Mildred and Otto divorced after 20 years and raising their five children. She married Lester Mullin on November 17, 1978 in Angola, IN. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1993.
Mrs. Mullin was loving mother to her children. She was known for her friendly personality and was a great listener. She would talk about anything with you and offer wise advice. She loved her family dearly and cherished family gatherings through the years. Her hobbies included; crocheting afghans, embroidering, gardening, which she didn’t give up until age 87, arranging flowers for her patio, and word puzzles. She also enjoyed visits with Pastor Shayne the last few years of her life.
Mildred is survived by her children Edwin Fields of Coldwater, Katherine (Ron Carr) Watson of Litchfield, Vernon (Mary) Fields of Coldwater, Ronald (Phyllis) Fields of Tekonsha, 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lester Mullin, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William W. and Edwin Koons, her sisters Jean and Marian Hyde, her son Richard Fields, her daughter-in-law Sandra Fields, her son-in-law Duane Watson, her brothers-in-law George and Jack Hyde, and her former spouse, Otto Fields, Jr.
