Daniel Allen Hart, 79, of Union City, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, just prior to the service, on October 29, 2019, also at Lighthouse.
Dan was born on June 23, 1940 at Mercy Hospital in Detroit to his very loving parents, Perry Hart, who died in 1982, and Lillian Hart, who died in 2005.
Dan graduated from Union City in 1958, following a high school career of playing all four varsity sports. He competed at the State level in pole vaulting, where he met the future MSU quarterback Dean Look, challenging each other in the vault.
He began his working years as a produce manager at Meijer in Urbandale. Later, he went to work for Frito Lay, where he prospered the company, covering several routes.
On February 17, 1962 Dan married the former Karen MacDonald at the United Methodist Church in Union City. Together they had two sons, Kenton and Phillip, and a daughter, Melinda. Dan and Karen enjoyed traveling together, working in their yard and golfing together, on leagues and with friends.
Dan was an avid golfer and pursued this passion full-time, becoming the golf coach at Union City High School. Later he became the golf pro at Turtle Creek Golf Course, where he enjoyed many years of golfing, winning several tournaments and trophies. His whole family came to enjoy the sport, as well, and joined in the competitions. Additionally, Dan liked playing cards, pool and singing karaoke. He loved talking with people everywhere he went.
After 57 years of marriage, Dan leaves behind his beloved wife, Karen MacDonald-Hart; their children, Kent Hart of Westland, Phillip Hart of Climax and Melinda Hart of Coldwater; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Dan also leaves behind his two brothers, Ted Hart from Frisco, TX and the youngest, Tim Hart, from the Bellevue-Olivet area. Tim, who crafted this obituary, stated he always admired the athletic ability of his older brothers. Dan will surely be missed by family and friends.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Union City Alumni Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 284, Union City, MI 49094.
A final message to this obituary: “Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts: 16:31). Therefore, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9).
