Gerald A. Winter, 81, of Quincy, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 at his home, lovingly surrounded by his family.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Shayne Looper from Lockwood Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Gerry was born April 11, 1940 in Sebewaing, MI to Albert & Leota (Kramer) Winter. He earned his Associates Degree in Business Agriculture Management from Michigan State University in 1959 and served in the US Army National Guard.
Gerry married the love of his life, Jill D. Sours on August 18, 1963 in Coldwater.
Gerry, along with his wife, Jill, owned and operated the Coldwater Dairy Queen for 21 years. Their employees often referred to them as “Mr. and Mrs. DQ.” He previously had worked for many years at United Technologies and ATL.
Gerry’s love of living in his home on Marble Lake, led him to serve on the Algansee Township Board of Trustees. He was also an avid sportsman, and a fan of MSU and the Detroit Tigers. Gerry managed several sports teams including fast pitch softball. He had a great love for golf, but his greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. Gerry was a man of unbreakable faith and his trust in the Lord, strongly guided his everyday life.
Gerry was quoted as saying, “A good memory is one that is so poor that you can’t remember what you worried about yesterday.”
Gerry is survived by his wife Jill, his children Wendy (Greg) Case of Quincy, Scott (Stacey) Winter of Coldwater, his grandchildren Bryce (Kenia) Gilbert, Brea (Zack) Postma, Scout Case, Emma (Cody Hayward) Winter and Oliver Winter; his great grandson Case Gilbert and special caregiver Macey Freedenburg, and his siblings Ray Winter, Loren (Carol) Winter, Vern Winter, Ronald Winter, John Winter, Larry Winter, Norma (Gerry) Nusz.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ken Winter and sisters Barbara Winter and Dorothy Bolzman.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Lockwood Community Church Youth Group.
