COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of three persons charged in connection with the theft of catalytic converters in Matteson Township between November 1 and December 23, 2020 was given more time in the Michigan Department of Corrections last week in Branch County Circuit Court.
33-year-old Amber Marie Carpenter of Three Rivers was given a sentence of 17 months to five years after entering guilty pleas to two counts of larceny from a motor vehicle.
In exchange for the pleas, a third larceny count and a habitual offender sentencing enhancer were dismissed by prosecutors and she must truthfully testify against a co-defendant in the case.
Carpenter was given credit for 227 days already served in Branch County.
Her sentence in the Branch County case will be concurrent to sentences she is currently serving in the M.D.O.C. that were handed down in St. Joseph County last June.
At that time, Carpenter was given maximum sentences of 10 years for possession of methamphetamine and for conspiracy to commit assault. She also got a sentence of 17 months to four years for assault with a dangerous weapon. The earliest she can be released is December of 2024. The maximum discharge date is May of 2031.
Carpenter is currently lodged in the Huron Valley Complex for Women in Ypsilanti.
According to court documents, Carpenter has a criminal record that dates back to 2009.
