QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Diner owner John Parney Sr. passed away December 14 after battling COVID-19 since September.
Parney’s wife Paula said in a post on the diner’s Facebook page the restaurant will not close. She said, “This diner was John’s vision and I will not be closing it. We will only be closing at 2:00 on Friday and the day of Christmas so my employees can spend time with their families.”
John Parney kept the restaurant open a year ago during the partial shutdown ordered by the State of Michigan.
Restaurants were only allowed to do take out orders and Parney said at the time, “It’s definitely been a struggle not being able to have dine in.”
Many Michigan restaurants decided to resume dine in service as they struggled to stay in business following the state’s orders which were issued in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Besides owning the restaurant, Parney also worked at FireKeepers Casino and was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
A GoFundMe was set up to help cover travel expenses for family visits when Parney was in the hospital as well as for his wife’s trips to Ann Arbor for treatment of her cancer. A fundraiser for the family will be held at the Hillsdale Pizza Hut on West Carleton Road on January 11 from 4 until 8 p.m. with ten percent of the sales going to the family.
