LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Cindy Gamrat will not resign, at least for now. In nine minutes of prepared remarks and a few questions from reporters, the state Representative expressed repentance for her alleged adulterous affair with fellow lawmaker Todd Courser.
It was the first public statement from the Plainwell Republican since the scandal broke a week ago. Gamrat claimed that she had no knowledge of any of Courser’s cover up plans, and did not say if she was blackmailed the same way the Lapeer lawmaker claimed he had been. As for stepping down, as many on both sides of the political aisle are calling for both her and Courser to do, Gamrat says she’s cooperating with a House Business Office investigation into the matter, and plans to be in the Capitol when the Lower Chamber returns from a summer break on Tuesday.
