COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Enhanced 911 Project made steady progress during 2021. The project is designed to improve signals and communications for police, firefighters and rescue crews.
Branch County voters approved a phone surcharge in November of 2020 to help fund the $9.3 million project which included the construction of five new towers.
If everything goes according to plan, the new radio system is expected to be fully operational in early 2022.
In addition, Robert “Bob” Swick was hired as Branch County’s new 911 Director. Swick previously worked with Henry Ford Allegiance Health, the Michigan Department of Corrections, the Bronson Police Department and the Coldwater Police Department.
He started his new position on October 11, 2021. Swick was among five finalists who were interviewed by the Branch County Board of Commissioners on August 27. A total of 29 candidates submitted applications for the position.
Long time Branch County 9-1-1 Director Kurt Spalding retired in 2020 after serving Branch County for over 35 years.
