SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a one car injury accident that took place on U.S. 12 near Burke Road in St. Joseph County’s Mottville Township on Saturday.
Troopers say according to witnesses, the driver of the at fault vehicle was traveling east on 12 when he tried to overtake another motorist and a MDOT plow truck.
Witnesses reported that after passing the plow truck, the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The driver was identified as a 23-year-old man from Elkhart, Indiana. His name was not released.
Troopers report he sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital by Life Care EMS.
Troopers were assisted on scene by White Pigeon and Constantine Police, the White Pigeon Township Fire Department and Life Care EMS.
