COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners have decided to move forward with a major energy savings program for the Courthouse and other county buildings. Commissioners on Tuesday approved the proposal after listening to a final recap on the plan from Dan Mack from Johnson Controls.
Mack reviewed the needed fixes at the courthouse with outdated infrastructure on the roof, the boilers, the air handlers, and the controls, which also have to be replaced at the Human Services building and there’s a cooler tower situation at the Family Independence Agency as well as deferred maintenance. It’s all designed to be a self-funded program with the energy savings realized by the county to cover the costs of the various building improvements which total an estimated $1.3 million dollars. The initial one year energy savings is around $100,000.
The county will obtain ten year financing to pay Johnson Controls, which is expected to begin construction September 1 with a completion date of May 31, 2016. The County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to adopt a final funding resolution for the contract with Johnson Controls at their August 26 meeting.
