COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a request on Tuesday to buy mobile repeaters to improve radio coverage capability for local fire departments as part of the 911 Communications project.
The cost is just over $100,700 and will be paid for from the 911 Communications project funds.
County Administrator Bud Norman said during last week’s Commissioners work session that the mobile repeaters would improve communications and safety.
Norman pointed out the 911 Communications Board gave their approval contingent upon the equipment’s performance after tests by the Coldwater Fire Department.
In other business during a brief meeting on Tuesday, the Commissioners formally approved a request from Prosecutor Zach Stempien to contract the investigator position in the Prosecutors Office for another year.
Stempien said last week his office has gotten an extension of the Michigan Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding grant which increases the amount from $25,000 to over $67,000.
There would be no financial impact on the county since the investigator and intern positions are completely funded through a grant awarded by the Michigan State Police which is good through the end of 2022.
