COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The on-going need in Michigan for more career technical education and skilled trades workers is coming into sharper focus in Branch County with Michigan Works! and State Representative Eric Leutheuser spreading the word on training for the future. Leutheuser, the 58th District House Republican from Hillsdale, says he hears stories in his area about small businesses having to turn away work because they don’t have enough skilled workers needed to accept a bid or job.
According to Leutheuser, the state is re-inventing itself and Branch and Hillsdale Counties are part of that, transitioning from one type of industry to the next generation of industries in manufacturing and agriculture with changing technologies and the associated needed training.
Michigan Works! at the end of next month and in early September is offering information sessions to local employers on becoming eligible for training dollars to upgrade their staff or to hire new people with grant money from the state. The sessions will center on potential customized on-site and classroom training and apprenticeships and current worker training. They will be held in Coldwater at the Branch Area Careers Center, the Michigan Works! Service Center and the Kellogg Community College Grahl Center.
