COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The man accused of spitting blood into the face and eye of a Coldwater Police Officer yesterday morning is being held on $30,000 bond after being arraigned in Branch County District Court. 23-year old Joseph Todd Gaskill, Jr. of Coldwater faces one count of resisting an officer causing injury and two counts of resisting and obstructing in addition to a parole violation.
Coldwater Police Sergeant Dave Crilly was treated and released from the Community Health Center of Branch County. Police say the incident occurred after Gaskill had been arrested for disorderly conduct related to a civil dispute over property at Marshall and Liberty Streets in Coldwater. Police say Gaskill injured himself thrashing about in the back seat of the patrol car, cutting his head. Crilly was checking out what kind of condition Gaskill was in when the resistance took another turn.
The arrest was made around 5:45 a.m. Monday. Gaskill is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on August 6, 2015.
