BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say a 14-year old girl was struck by an SUV last night on U.S. 12 in Branch County after she intentionally walked onto the highway in front of traffic. Behind the wheel of the car was a 15-year old girl driving on a learner’s permit with her mother as a passenger.
The accident happened west of Bronson and the young driver nearly avoided hitting the girl but still grazed her, knocking her down just west of Weaver Road. They stopped and checked on the condition of the victim as did several other passing motorists before Bronson Fire Department first responders arrived to provide the initial patient care.
The 14-year old was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment of non-life threating injuries. U.S. 12 was shut down in the area for 40 minutes following the accident that occurred around 9:30 p.m.Thursday.
