COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners Tom Matthew, Randall Hazelbaker and Jon Houtz will run for re-election this year.
They will all appear on the ballot in the August 2 Republican Primary.
Matthew wants to serve another term as a County Commissioner in the newly created Fourth Commissioner District. The new district was created following the 2020 census and was approved last October by the county apportionment board.
Hazelbaker is seeking re-election in the first district while Houtz is running in the second district.
The filing deadline for county candidates to get on the ballot for the August primary is April 19 at 4:00 p.m..
In announcing his intent to seek re-election, Matthew said that he is delighted to see the progress made in various areas of the administration by the board. Last year, he served as Chair of the Finance and Vice Chair of the Personel and Policy Committee.
Matthew serves on two policy committees for the Michigan Association of Counties. He is also a member of the Michigan Local Health Accreditation Commission, the Coldwater Friends of the Branch District Library and President of Shawnee Shoals Neighborhood Association.
He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Matthew and his wife, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, are the parents of four children and two grand children.
