COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Excavation work on the field itself has begun, as crews work to install a new all-purpose synthetic turf football field and new track at Coldwater High School. Crews late last week and over the weekend stripped off the top surface of the current track, and then Wednesday began taking up the current sod on the football field..
A suburban Cleveland firm, Sports Contracting Group, is coordinating this portion of the project for $1.5 million dollars. The field is expected to be in place in time for the Coldwater varsity football season opener at home against Hastings on August 28, 2015.
The new field and track are being funded with a $1 million Larsen Unitrust gift to the school district as well as a portion of $6 million in state bonds that will pay for other needed building, technology, and security improvements. The remainder of the $2.5 million athletic field complex project including a new press box and entrance ways, is scheduled to be completed next spring.
