COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Community Health Center of Branch County’s hospice program is seeking volunteers for all areas of service. Persons willing to provide direct care to patients and their families, clerical assistance, and help with fundraising are invited to participate in the hospice program’s volunteer training classes this fall.
Classes will be held on Sept. 15, 16, 22, and 23 from 5-8 p.m. at the CHC Home Health and Hospice Conference Room at 300 E. Chicago St., Coldwater. Each volunteer must be certified to receive volunteer assignments and be willing to undergo a background check, TB testing, and finger printing. There is no cost to prospective volunteers. The training will provide an overview of CHC’s hospice program. Course pre-registration is required and reservations can be made by calling (517) 279-5420.
“Hospice volunteers are unique individuals who are compassionate, honest, and kind and give of themselves to improve the quality of other people’s lives while enriching their own,” said a hospice spokesman. “A hospice volunteer may spend time with a patient to give family members a short break, provide companionship and listening skills, and help with simple errands to lessen the burden on the family.”
Others are needed to help with office duties including work on the Great Hospice Duck Race, which is hospice service’s major fundraiser.
The mission of the CHC of Branch County hospice program is to provide the highest quality of hospice services to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of terminally ill patients and their families, allowing them to be as comfortable as possible through their remaining months, weeks or days of life.
