HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has been notified by the city of Hillsdale that nearly 70,000 gallons of untreated sewage has been discharged from their wastewater treatment plant into the St. Joseph River following an overflow during a recent loss of electrical power. As a result, the Health Agency has issued a no-contact advisory with people being told to avoid any body contact with the St. Joseph River from the Wastewater treatment plant location in Hillsdale on Galloway Street to the Moore Road bridge access point, until further notice.
The plant operators have corrected the situation and raw sewage is no longer being released into the river.
