COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Trees, limbs, and power lines at a number of locations across Branch County came down just after midnight early today when a line of heavy thunderstorms pushed through the county as part of a strong storm system that blew across Southwest Michigan and the tristate area last night. At last word, no injuries had been reported.
Fire departments in Bronson, Sherwood, and Union City were toned out to check on reports of arching wires while Michigan State Police troopers and local police departments were busy responding to and discovering locations where trees and limbs were covering some or complete sections of several streets and roads. No warnings were issued for Branch County but they were for Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties and a portion of Southwest Michigan including St. Joseph County was under a tornado watch from nine pm until midnight.
Last night’s stormy weather came on the heels of heavy downpours and frequent lightning that hit Coldwater and portions of Branch County Monday morning.
