JoAnn Elaine Macomber, 79, of Union City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Tekonsha on hospice care.
A memorial service will be held at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Lighthouse just prior to the service, from 12:00 Noon-1:00 PM, on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
JoAnn was born May 16, 1942 in Marshall, Michigan to Roy and Merlah (Mau) Cole. She grew up in Tekonsha, where she attended Tekonsha High School. On November 24, 1972, she married Bobby Macomber at Lyon Lake United Methodist Church in Marshall. They had been married for 42 years at the time of his death in 2015. The couple resided in Michigan, then in Illinois for several years for Bobby’s employment, before retiring to Union City 20 years ago. JoAnn was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed going to Moose Lodge activities in Illinois and Michigan, dancing, dining out and traveling with her husband.
Additionally, JoAnn liked going to garage sales, cashiering for her daughter during Tekonsha’s annual Labor Day Weekend community garage sales and visiting with people by phone. She was straightforward and opinionated, possessed a colorful vocabulary and was prone to making unfiltered, entertaining comments about everyday life. She and her love of life and laughter will be missed by her family and friends.
JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Diane (Steve Renfro) Woods of Tekonsha and Kathy (Matt) Hoover of Lowell; grandchildren, Daniel (Megan) Cummings of Homer, Eric Cummings of Tekonsha; Amanda (Eric) Davis of Bellevue; Kevin (Ashley) Culp of Battle Creek and Misty (Aaron) Robbins of Sherwood; and many great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Bobby, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Brenda Lessman; and her brother, Wilferd Cole.
