UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Fire Department has placed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in area homes.
In all, the fire department installed 100 smoke detectors and 43 carbon monoxide detectors over the past couple months, free of charge.
The fire department held a drive in October at the fire safety day in which area residents could sign up for the detectors and have been diligently placing them and installing them since.
These detectors were obtained by the fire department through the SAFE (Smoke Alarms For Everyone) program.
Fire Chief Scott Stevens says his department will do their best to have another drive later this year under the same program.
