COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Jail booking section was comparatively quiet mid-week with only one person arrested Thursday and two on Wednesday and during the last week, several other days had only 2 or 3 lodged at the lockup. But Friday was a different matter. 12 people, 7 males and 5 females, were booked at the jail. The charges varied including embezzlement, carrying a concealed weapon offense while driving with a suspended license, as well as domestic violence, MIP-Probation Violation, Possession of Marijuana, and failure to register as a sex offender. Even with the dozen arrests, the inmate population at the jail only went up to 134 as there were several releases following a prisoner count on Thursday of 131. While the corrections officers remain busy, at least the most recent days show the inmate numbers below the overcrowding limit which is 142.
