BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – After a rather tranquil December and January, Old Man Winter seems to be making up for lost time during the month of February.
Branch County has been hit with two winter storms during the month and driving on Saturday morning was a real issue for those who had to be out on the roads.
The blowing and drifting snow during the overnight hours led to snow covered roads and slick driving conditions.
Drivers also encountered some high snow drifts.
The Branch County Memorial Airport reported overnight winds gusts as high as 39 miles an hour with wind chills dropping to as low as six degrees below zero.
There was a report shortly before 7:00 a.m. that a portion of Girard Road was close to being drifted shut.
A truck that slid off into a ditch also affected traffic in the area of M-66 and M-60 in Sherwood Township.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the strong gusty winds which were expected to die down during the late morning hours.
Relief from the chilly weather is on the way as highs are expected to warm up into the upper 30s on Sunday and in the low to mid 40s on Monday and Tuesday.
