COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a request from County Administrator Bud Norman on Tuesday to extend the 2-1-2 hiring plan through the end of 2022.
The plan was implemented to assist the county in the recruitment and retention of employees.
Norman says the plan allows for potential employees to choose to start at the two-year hourly wage in the wage scale, with the understanding that they would hold at that step until they reached the years of service to receive further step increases.
He added during the Commissioner’s work session last Thursday that five out of eight eligible hires took advantage of the offer.
The plan was originally approved to run through the end of 2021.
Norman says the plan is available to all employees except for those who belong to the Police Officers Association of Michigan because the union turned down what would have been a change to their contract with the county.
