COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For many years, Coldwater has been known as the “Flag City” and that designation will be highlighted once again with several events next week leading up to Flag Day 2015 which is a week from tomorrow on June 14th.
On Tuesday, Boy Scout Troop #433 will be having a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 5:00 pm at Oak Grove Cemetery. Flags that need to be retired can be brought to the cemetery at that time for proper retirement.
The Coldwater Elks Lodge every year observes Flag Day on the Friday closest to the day with a ceremony. This year, it will be outside the lodge at their flag pole and taking part will be Lodge sponsored Boy Scout Troop #469, the American Legion Drill team and Elks officers. The ceremony is scheduled to get underway Friday evening, June 12th, at 6:00 pm.
Also next weekend, many extra flags will be flying in Coldwater. Flag Day is one of the five major flag holidays that the Coldwater Kiwanis Club and the Boys Scouts place 3×5 flags on 10 foot poles across the city in their “Flags Across Coldwater” project. The other holidays included are Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day. The cost for a yearly subscription to the flag project is $30 with $20 for each additional flag.
