BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cards moved on to the Division One district semifinals on Monday night at Battle Creek Central as they defeated the host Bearcats 53-40.
The Cardinals were ahead throughout the game as they improved their record to 12-9. They were on top 16-12 after the first period and 29-20 at the half. Coldwater created distance in the third period as they increased their margin to 48-32 and the Bearcats were not able to mount a serious threat after that.
Coldwater had a hot shooting night as they made 63 percent of their field goal attempts and shot 73 percent from the free throw line.
Elli Foley led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, including a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line. She also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Mallory Wilber added 11 points, while Anna DeMeester had a team-high 5 assists. Freshman Elli Anderson scored nine points, including the first seven Cardinal points of the game.
Coldwater will face top-seeded and 18-1 Battle Creek Lakeview in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Gull Lake defeated Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 51-39 in the second game at Battle Creek Central on Monday night.
