COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, there was nothing scheduled yesterday as the baseball and softball teams from the county that captured state tournament district titles over the weekend prepare for the MHSAA Regionals coming up on Saturday. District championships were won by Coldwater and Quincy in baseball and softball and by Bronson in softball.
There were a few District titles decided yesterday around the state after the games had been postponed by rain on Saturday. Monday’s action allowed the pairings to be set for the Regional at Lansing Catholic, where Quincy and Bronson will battle in the first semifinal at 10 am Saturday. In the other semifinal, it will be Laingsburg vs. Lansing Catholic. The winner of the Regional will advance to the quarterfinals a week from today at Davenport University.
The spring high school sports season is still playing out for another Branch County team as Coldwater is getting ready to tee it up in the Division Two Boys Golf Finals starting Friday on the Forest Akers East Course at Michigan State University.

The Coldwater Mickey Mantle team opened summer league play last night in Battle Creek and earned a split against the Battle Creek Shamrock 15-U team. Coldwater took the first game 5-1 with Cameron Barnes the winning pitcher. He went the distance with a six inning 4-hitter along with 5 strikeouts. Brady Snow and Barnes each had 2 singles with an RBI for Barnes while Dylan Horn had two RBI’s with a double.
Coldwater dropped the nightcap in a four-inning mercy rule 10-0 defeat. Mitchell Duda was the losing pitcher.
