BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A Gilead Township family survived a weekend fire that destroyed their home in Branch County near the Indiana border. The single story wood frame residence at 409 West Southern Road was engulfed in flames when Bronson firemen reached the scene around 5:20 a.m. Saturday morning.
A smoke alarm woke up the Terry Platter family and they were able escape the blaze without injury. It appears a possible electrical short in the living room started the fire. The house was declared a total loss with damages estimated at $45,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents.
The Lakeland Fire Department provided mutual aid while also assisting were Michigan State Police, Lifecare Ambulance, and Consumers Energy.
