COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A portion of U.S. 12 on Coldwater’s east side was shut down for an hour-and-a-half yesterday after an elderly Coldwater man was seriously injured when his car collided with a semi-tractor trailer. The accident occurred shortly before noon in front of the Walmart Super Center.
Coldwater City Police said 91-year old Howard Cox was alone in his Ford Focus when he attempted to turn west from Anderson Drive onto U.S. 12 and crashed into the trailer of the westbound semi. The impact of the crash sent Cox’s car back up over the curb where it smashed into a sign post in front of the Applebee’s restaurant. Cox was flown from the scene by Air-Care to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment. There’s no word on his condition.
U.S. 12 was closed from Michigan Avenue to Fisk Road during the accident investigation which continues.
