COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girls varsity soccer team tied the school record for wins last night, beating Charlotte 3-0 in the first round of the Interstate 8 tournament at Coldwater. The win improved their record to 10-7-2 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Megan Hoath, Jasmine Wellet, and Breanna Eddy all scored for Coldwater. Madison Marsh had 2 assists, Maggie Pool had one, and Shelby Bowers made 11 saves for her 9th shutout of the season. Coldwater will play tomorrow at Jackson Northwest for the Silver Division championship of the I-8 tournament.
The Coldwater JV team beat Charlotte 3-1. Carlee Larimer, Carlie Wilson, and Meagan Taylor each had a goal.
In boys golf yesterday, Coldwater finished in first place at the Island Hills Golf Course in a tri-meet with host Sturgis and Harper Creek. The Cardinal’s winning team score was162 with Sturgis second at 175 and then Harper Creek at 176. Coldwater was led by Keagan Dwyer who was medalist with a 39 followed by Nick Galliers with a 40, Nathan Waterbury had a 41, Cam Ruge fired a 42, Nolan Duda shot a 44, and Stephen Boston rounded out the scoring with a 45.
Coldwater also won the JV meet at Island Hills with a team score of 182 followed by Harper Creek at 206 and Sturgis at 222. Jacob Fair topped the Cardinals with a 43, Cole Targgart shot a 45, Tanner Bowers had a 46, Collin Outwater carded a 48 and Brendan Hanna rounded out the JV scoring with a 50.
On today’s high school sports schedule, in softball, Coldwater plays at home against Pennfield and Bronson is at Buchanan. In baseball and softball, it’s Quincy at Concord and Union City hosts Homer. And in baseball only, it’s Bronson at Lake Michigan Catholic. In track, Coldwater competes in the Interstate Eight meet at Marshall. And in girls soccer, Quincy has a home match against Hanover Horton.
In middle school sports Monday, in co-ed tennis, the Coldwater B team lost at Parma Western 6-2. Winners for the Cardinals were Stuart Sobesky at first singles along with Allison Caswell and Morgan Rakoske at third doubles.
